Maa laddu - Celebrating 2nd blog anniversary

I am very excited to share that i am celebrating 2nd blog anniversary today. I would like to thank all my friends, readers, visitors and my fellow bloggers for their support over last two years. I got many new friends from blogging world in the last two years. To celebrate this special occasion i prepared a simple but yummy sweet called maa laddu. Maa laddu / roasted gram laddu / pottukadalai urundai is a popular sweet prepared with roasted gram / pottukadalai. This simple and delicious laddu will be enjoyed by all ages.

Maa laddu

Ingredients:

Yields : 13 laddu

Preparation time: 15 to 20 minutes

      • 1 cup + 1 handful - Roasted gram / Pottukadalai
      • 1 cup - Sugar
      • 3/4 to 1 cup - Ghee (hot ghee)
      • 2 nos - Cardamom
      • 10 nos - Cashew nuts

Maa laddu process

Preparation method:

  1. Grind roasted gram / pottukadalai in a mixer grinder to a smooth powder. Set aside.
  2. Same way grind sugar and cardamom seeds in a mixer grinder to a smooth powder, set it aside.
  3. Fry cashew nuts in little ghee till they are golden brown in color. Set aside.
  4. Take a mixing bowl, add ground roasted gram, ground sugar, fried cashew nuts along with ghee and mix well.
  5. Now heat the remaining ghee over medium flame and slowly add to the above mixture till you get the right consistency that lets you make lemon sized balls. Do not add all the ghee in one shot, make sure you add little at a time.
  6. While it is still warm, make lemon sized balls out of the dough and store it in an airtight container for a week. yummy maa laddu is ready.

Maa laddu

Notes:

  • You can alternatively dry roast the roasted gram and then powder it, but it is completely optional.
  • Make laddu balls while the dough is still warm otherwise it will be too hard to make a perfect ball.
  • Add hot ghee little by little in the ground mixture while making laddu.
