Onion paratha
Onion paratha is prepared with whole wheat flat bread stuffed with spiced onion. It goes well with plain yogurt and pickle.

For outer layer:
- 2 cups – Wheat flour
- 1 tsp – Ghee
- Salt as needed
- Warm water as needed
For onion stuffing:
- 2 nos – Onion (chopped finely)
- 1 no – Green chilli (chopped finely)
- 1 tsp – Cumin seeds
- 3 pinches – Red chilli powder (as needed)
- 2 pinches – Garam masala powder
- 1 tbsp – Coriander leaves (chopped)
- 1 tsp – Curry leaves (chopped)
- Salt as needed
Preparation method:
- Take a mixing bowl, add wheat flour, ghee, salt and warm water together to make a soft dough like we make for chappathi. Knead dough for few minutes and finally add oil once again knead it.
- Set the dough aside and cover it with a damp cloth/plate. Let the dough rest for at least 20 minutes.
- For onion stuffing take a bowl, add in all the ingredients given in the list “for stuffing” and mix well everything, set aside.
- Make equal sized balls out of dough. Roll the dough into 3 inch diameter circles; place 2 tbsp of onion filling in the middle and cover completely with dough. Press lightly with your palm and dust with flour before rolling out into thick flat parathas. Continue the same process with rest of dough and filling.
- Heat a tawa, place parathas and cook both sides in medium flame. Drizzle little oil as needed, till golden brown. Serve hot with any raita and pickle.
Notes:
- Onions have to be finely chopped otherwise you can not roll the parathas properly.
- If you are making parathas for kids, then skip the green chilies.
- You can also sprinkle some amchur powder or chaat masala in this recipe.
